Anything Worth Holding On To/Don't Give Up Now
These two Scott Alan ballads pair up perfectly together -- the first verse and chorus of "Anything Worth Holding On To", led by an alto soloist, describe the despair of being in a hopeless situation, then the medley transitions into the encouraging words of "Don't Give Up Now" which begins with a short tenor solo. At the end both soloists sing together over a powerful final chorus. This chart accommodates a costume change if needed, as the opening solo is longer than a minute and the backup vocals could be omitted if necessary.

Lately it seems, I've lost inspiration It feels like it's miles away I sleep through the day And cry through the night time I'm caught in an empty space Takes effort to fight I don't have the strength I'm holding on to what's still left of me When the life you had planned Slowly slips through your hands When it feels like you just slept through all the best years of you're life When you can't find your way When each day ends the same When you've lost the fight inside of you Is there anything worth holding on to? I know there's days you feel all hope is gone But I trust that you'll still carry on Even if it feels like you've had enough And with each empty threat you make I'll be reminding you there's better days Even days like this one when you've just had enough And when you're tired and you wanna break free Remind yourself, 'It's not my time to leave.' And when you feel there's no hope to be found Please remember all the strength it took to get you here And think, 'Why would I give up now?' Each day this life gets shorter And in a blink it will be over So I need you to believe that there are still great years ahead And if you ever feel like maybe we'd be best without you here You're wrong It hurts us just how wrong So when you think your life is over and done And the darkest clouds are concealing the sun When your heart just screams for a peaceful way out Please remember all the people who still need you here And think, 'Why would I give up now?' Even when you wanna give up Promise you won't give up I won't if you won't give up Don't you ever give up now! (Scott Alan)
