Irrational Anthem

The opening track to the Plain White T's sixth album "Wonders of the Younger" is a manifesto for those who love to stand out from the crowd! This rousing rock anthem juxtaposes a heavy, guitar-driven chorus with quieter, introspective verses. From a lyrical standpoint it works best as a closer, but it could also be used to open a show. With a couple of cuts it would even function as a midtempo chart! It features a female soloist for the second verse.

Instrumentation: Piano/Synth/Guitar/Bass/Drums/Percussion/2 Tpt/2 Tbn/Alto, Tenor Sax

I remember wishing I was older
Always something big around the corner
But as the years go by, I'm growing younger
Open eyes and head still filled with wonder

Pledge allegiance, everybody stand up
This is our irrational anthem
We don't care if they don't understand us
This is our irrational, irrational anthem

Let your mind go anywhere it wants to
Make your wildest wishes and watch them all come true
Somehow, somewhere we forgot
Cowboys, indians, astronauts
All the dreams that we could not hold on to
Take it back, oh, we gotta take it back!

There's nothing worse than normal
There's no fun in mundane
When everyone else gets older
I refuse to change
Weak or strong, right or wrong
Whose side are you on?

Pledge allegiance, everybody stand up
This is our irrational anthem
We don't care if they don't understand us
This is our irrational, irrational anthem

Oh, hey!
Everybody stand up and sing our irrational anthem
Oh, hey!
Everybody stand up and pledge allegiance
Oh, Oh, everybody stand up!
