Nothin' But Muddy Water
This chart starts off with traditional blues in the style of Muddy Waters -- nothing but an acoustic guitar and a baritone soloist. The choir joins in for a chorus before the second half of the medley kicks in, a hard-hitting Southern blues-rock scorcher featuring an alto soloist and lots of electric guitar. Use the chart as written to accommodate a costume change, or simply drop the slower introduction if you only want to perform the uptempo half.

Been breakin' my back since the sun came up Ain't had a drop all day Go down to the river to quench my thirst Ain't nothin' but muddy water Ain't nothin' but muddy water all around Nothin' but muddy water all around Ain't nothin' but muddy water all around And my soul is sinkin' down I've been down and out, tryin' to make a dime Every day a new mountain to climb I keep fallin' down and scrapin' my knee Missin' every opportunity Life's been givin' me nothin' but muddy water I ain't heard from my baby in seventeen days And all my friends have gone their separate ways My thoughts keep tellin' me that I'm to blame Nowhere to hide from the sorrow and shame I try to clear my head, but there's nothin' but muddy water And every time I finally move one step forward Somebody comes along to push me two steps back Ain't gonna be too long before I fall off the track I got one last shot, I'm gonna take a chance Give this ol' town a final glance I step on board and start to pray The big wide river's gonna take me away And all I can see is nothin' but muddy water
