Paint It Black

This classic hit by the Rolling Stones is arranged as a closer in the style of Vanessa Carlton's version. It starts with a subdued a cappella (or bass only) introduction and builds in intensity to a multi-layered final chorus. It features a short alto solo, a guitar solo during the dance break, and an ear-catching sitar synth part.

Instrumentation: Piano/Synth/Guitar/Bass/Drums/Percussion/3 Tpt/1 Tbn/Alto, Bari, & 2 Tenor Sax

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore, I want them to turn black

I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

I see a line of cars and they are painted black
With flowers and my love both never to come back

I wanna see it painted, painted,
Painted black, painted black as night
I wanna see it painted, painted,
Painted black, never to come back

I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it's heading into black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black

I wanna see it painted, painted,
Painted black, painted black as night
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted black
Black, black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted black,
I wanna see it painted black,
Can you paint it, can you paint it,
Can you paint the whole world black?
